Go ahead and blame the OEMs, but despite the record revenues, I think Microsoft continues to struggle through the desktop-web transition, burdened both by legacy technology and a late arrival to the party. The schizophrenic nature of Windows 8 (tablet home screen, but keep the desktop for other stuff) is representative of this fact.
