Doug, you are right but of course this is about pennies. In Government it's important we get best value out of every -/$ if we want to get deficit/taxes down and still support our health/military/benefits etc. services, it's in everybody's interest, whatever your political persuasion . Spending money on large expensive services like this without trying/testing/developing dramatically lower cost open source or other options, which are often all we need, is vital. It demonstrates a state of mind, either you want to reform and improve public technology services or not. If these guys don't ensure that happens they should step aside and make way for those who will. This is not a dress rehearsal, people are dying out there every day due to lack of government funding or over taxation.

"The headline figure is pretty high, but not unusually so." Really? Seven-figure deals aren't unusual, but 10 figures? Even for the U.S. government, a billion here and a billion there adds up to real money!
