I think this $80 million is a bid to get on top of mobile application performance monitoring as quickly as possible and create a company with unique value. New Relic also has a knack for self promotion: witness the triumphant tour of the Obama tech team that it sponsored after the election because the team used New Relic. (In bid for bipartisan harmony, COO Chris Cook says Romney team also used New Relic.) Charlie Babcock, InformationWeek
