re: IBM Watson Helps Doctors Fight Cancer
Now that is putting Watson to a great use that will produce some excellent. It is a great feature having Watson list the source and its recommendations. From the sounds of it they developed this based around what the users want Watson to do and they also have quite a bit that I am sure will lower their workloads which will enable more quality time per patient in the long run. Looking forward to observing this and seeing what great things Watson can come up with.

The apps look promising, but the $2 trillion healthcare industry attracts lots of vendors. SAS and Pegasystems both play in this arena. The key question is whether their analytics and rules-driven systems, respectively, are designed to keep learning the way Watson constantly ingests the latest research and clinical trial information. Rules tend to be brittle and analytics models are only as up to date as the last training set. Seems like Watson would have an advantage if it truly keeps up on a steady diet of fresh information as claimed.
