I also agree. To expand on Chris's comment, I think that this underlines a trend that I have noticed in the IT world over the past few years -- that not only the CIO, but also the rank and file IT pro needs to become more of a business partner than a back-room techie. I gave a TED talk on this topic a few months ago explaining my reasoning, how I came to this conclusion, and challenging others in the tech field to make this leap for themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?....

re: Accenture: Seven Key Tech Trends For Business
Completely agree that CIOs must shift to focus on creating a digital business. But leaders shouldn't underestimate just how big the cultural the shift is: Building technology that customers use directly is a huge leap from tech that employees use in a back-office support function. IT leaders who've made this move tell us it's a different mindset -- the intensity goes way up around quality, speed, service, market responsiveness. Not everyone in an existing IT organization will make the leap.

The Business of Going Digital
The Business of Going Digital
Digital business isn't about changing code; it's about changing what legacy sales, distribution, customer service, and product groups do in the new digital age. It's about bringing big data analytics, mobile, social, marketing automation, cloud computing, and the app economy together to launch new products and services. We're seeing new titles in this digital revolution, new responsibilities, new business models, and major shifts in technology spending.
