re: Is Storage Saving Virtual Desktop Infrastructure?
What a hot topic George. Thanks for posting.

Achieving the single image or gold image is the nirvana of VDI. I've seen far too many customer's VDI fail because they were sold on a Microsoft or a Microsoft and Citrix solution but storage was never addressed or planned. They bought off on the concept of single image management but once deployed quickly learned the user wants statefull VDI. So, we end up dribbling into statefull and before they know it we have a 1:1 image to user ratio. Now their CapEx is out the window because the cost saving they thought they had are now even higher in the data center. Instead of linked clones they often separate the user state with RES and get a statefull experience with stateless image management.

When it comes to managing data, donít look at backup and archiving systems as burdens and cost centers. A well-designed archive can enhance data protection and restores, ease search and e-discovery efforts, and save money by intelligently moving data from expensive primary storage systems.
