ah yes, the cool variations, you mean like a smaller size or a weaker engine? because from personal experience europeans think that anything with more than 160 hp and a 1.0L engine is a muscle car ;)

I don't buy that argument. Even if phones are subsidized they are paid for with full price by the carrier and the customer pays for it over time. This is probably a business decision inline what their marketing thinks Americans expect out of their phones. For a while USA was supposedly behind in mobile tech because the SMS adoption was so low, but what was overlooked that the ONLY reason SMS took off elsewhere in the world was because it was so much cheaper than making a two minute phone call. Americans just made a phone call.

Will it work in Canada??? My wife has an iphone and we share the same service with Sprint. Her phone worked in Canada, my Samsung did not.

The business model here in the states is different than it is in Europe (or was... a quick glance at google suggests that this is still the case.) We (in the US) like to get our phones cheap or free (with the purchase of a service plan.) If you go to other countries, typically they're willing to pay more for their smartphones, and they'll pay the sticker price without it being subsidized by a service provider.

For example, the HTC One camera dropped from 4 to 8 megapixels,

Is this some of that new math where 8 is smaller than 4?

It's sort of like how the US never gets the really cool car variations that Europe gets.

Eric, would you happen to know why overseas markets always get better hardware specs than we do states side? As we are the largest economy you would think that we would have the hardware way before any other country!
