re: How Should We Measure Clouds?
As usual Alistair makes an excellent point here, one I tried to make in a different way in Management Strategies For the Cloud Revolution. One thing the cloud allows us to do is throw a switch and treat the resource as abundant rather than scarce -- for some defined period. Sometimes, the goal should be to use as much resource as you can profitably manage for a short period, rather than husband use of a limited resource.over a long period. An hour's worth of analytics could save a company millions, and cost $200 rather than the $100 originally planned. That's a pretty favorable trade-off. If you're intent on buying each computer you use, you can't do that. Charlie Babcock, editor at large, InformatoinWeek
