Microsoft needs a sense of urgency in hitting those deadlines. One factor for companies will be how committed a vendor is to these cloud services and whether it has a track record of reliability.

Microsoft Dynamics GP and Dynamics NAV will hit Azure as public-cloud-hosted software this summer. Dynamics AX is slated to hit Azure as a cloud-based (multi-tenant/SaaS) service in late 2014... though Microsoft has slipped on these dates before. NAV and GP are for SMB and AX is for midsize to large, generally.

How well-positioned is Microsoft to capture cloud ERP business as companies start to seriously consider cloud, especially on that lower end of the range of $100 mln to $5 bln revenue companies? I think those companies moving out of the soup will increasingly want to go right to a cloud/hosted option.

Microsoft execs tell me Dell wasn't inclined to acknowledge its Dynamics AX deployment until recently. I wonder if that $3 billion loan from Microsoft to help Dell go private helped persuade? I've asked for follow-up with Dell execs who actually oversee this deployment, but they weren't available at the Convergence event.
