Perhaps I missed it, but I don't see where Joe said the contest itself is a bad idea. He just said he found it overly AWS-centric. of course, that is, as you say Netflix's right. But Joe is a consistent proponent of open standards and portability (in fact, he just did long-form defenses of standardization and of cloud standards) and also has a right to push that agenda forward.
