There are no doubt plenty of machine actions or activities valuable enough to track and monitor in real-time. I've heard some interesting use of this to monitor oil rig production in real time. But in many industries, even 'managing by exception' you could quickly reach alert overload. And the cost to place a sensor and Internet link often isn't trivial. I suspect those forces will temper the spread of real-time monitoring use.

MessageInsight draws on proven MQ message bus and InfoSphere Streams event-processing technologies. Companies are clearly handing remote and mobile messages already, but the appliance is aimed at scaling up real-time analysis.
