re: Cloud Survey Has Warning For Amazon
Very interesting data points Charlie. We conducted a smaller survey at the European Cloud Expo, and found that as many as 40% of large enterprises had deployed some form of IT workload in an external cloud. 20% used AWS, and a surprising 17% claimed to be using Azure and VMware Cloud Foundry. Terremark had 11% and Rackspace 9%. Red Hat and Google did not feature in this particular set of enterprises at the show. As for multiple clouds, my anecdotal evidence is that enterprise often use SaaS from one provider, and IaaS from another G㢠which might explain the need for multiple clouds? And probably why hosting providers are basing themselves on more converged infrastructure like Cisco UCS as well as Microsoft 360 to capture the entire stack. Irrespective, as these surveys confirms, the cloud wars are really starting to pick up speed. and it will be interesting to watch further developments unfold next year.
