This is the most hopeful news I've seen on HP in many years (if all else fails, focus on the customer; if only Mark Hurd could have seen that). Now if we can get HP to fix its traditionally horrendous tech support...

Hinshaw is capitalizing on the all the good, mid-level people at HP who get the job done and are trusted by customers, regardless of the antics upstairs. And if HP's example convinces other companies to switch from Siebel CRM to Salesforce and other software as a service, that strikes a blow at Oracle's application business. As an alleged partner, Oracle was none too kind to HP in the Itanium episode, whatever the merits of Oracle's claims about Itanium's future, Software as a service may be good for HP's operations, but knocking Oracle's application business probably regarded as suitable payback as well..Charlie Babcock, editor at large, InformationWeek
