re: Companies Create MOOCs To Fill Skills Gaps
Not sure if an online course should really be labeled a MOOC if there's a charge associated with it, which by itself will tend to prevent the accumulation of a "massive" audience. Not saying these courses aren't useful, but are they MOOCs?

MOOCs & Learning Academies
A great article and it is interesting to look back in time and see where MOOCs are today.

I run a consultancy Simon Branston Ltd that specialises in the building of learning academies for large global clients and have been watching the uptake of MOOCs to see how much impact they have had over the last few years.

I also set up the LeadershipSkillsAcademy as a free resource to enable individuals and those in smaller businesses to develop their leadership capabilities and skills.

Underpinning any executive development programme or learning academy is its curriculum and I can see a potential increasing role here for MOOCs. They are a great resource and can be also used to augment 70:20:10 based curricula that utilise social media, e-learning, coaching / mentoring and formal learning programs. Typically these academy curriculum resources are aligned to support the organization's people and talent and to underpin improvements in organisational performance.

However, as a caveat, given the revolution now taking place in corporate L&D the usage of MOOCs could move on signficantly in the few years.

Thanks for the article.

Simon
