re: VMware Partners Wrestle With Cloud Co-opetition
If VMware, intentionally or otherwise, increases the cost to partners of moving customers to a VMware based cloud, it will create more converts to OpenStack. For that reason, I have to think it will try to keep every existing, competent partner enlisted in trying to make a profit in its existing ecosystem. But it could prove a fine line to walk. re: VMware Partners Wrestle With Cloud Co-opetition
The cloud management market is heating up. As Charlie notes, VMware is taking steps to gain the experience needed to make their own cloud management products better, with Dell, HP and others making acquisition and strategy decisions in order to
compete in this space. There is much at stake: market leadership of the next generation of solutions that will address ITG«÷s need for agility, and the ability to offer IT-as-a-Service while managing security and compliance. Avoiding vendor lock-in is critical for IT in a developing market. The current vendor G«£FrankenG«• IT solutions stitched together from multiple, acquired products is untenable. Purpose-built solutions that offer business agility will continue to grow in momentum and out-perform other options. Any VMware customers care to chime in on whether this situation presents opportunities -- i.e. are the partners offering you special treatment and working extra hard to keep your business?
