re: HP, IBM Bruised By Sluggish Server Market
The only real winner among the server manufacturers was Cisco, probably as a result of its converged architecture. Dell is doing OK, thanks to its emphasis on producing servers for cloud data centers. But IBM has a lot revenue tied to AIX servers and they are suffering. Cisco now ranks as the equivalent of the former Sun Microsystems, although it would be a Sun that has been in decline for several years from where it stood before its acquisition by Oracle. These changes reflect the impact of cloud computing and virtualization on the server market. Charlie Babcock, editor at large, InformationWeek
