The question is if US companies and science lab really need the world's leading supercomputer. I rather see them succeed with the systems they have than spend a lot of resources on prestige.

Reagan once said he feared we were "second to one" (in this case it was the old USSR). Now we're second to China, India, ... and Russia in terms of space travel now. Gee... guess that "small gubmint" stuff is working pretty well... I.T. is now quite dead as an occupation thanks to outsourcing, and "sooo..prise...soo..prise!" China is beating us in computing, soon to be followed by India as that is where all that US Corp. money is getting invested these days in building infrastructure there so they won't come over here. How about that. And using the engineering skills learned in US Universities and using the internet where the R&D was paid by taxpayers! Americans sure are dumb... and now it's costing...

When American manufacturing started heading to China in groves and every since I've heard how the Chinese only do low level unsophisticated manufacturing causing no threat to our military manufacturing base. Seems those in big corporations and US government providing those assurances where and are quiet wrong.
