re: Microsoft Drops Xbox One Internet Requirement
So I wonder, why did it work for gamers but we're till stuck with the widely hated Tool Ribbon and we can't get the Start Menu back, as opposed to the poke-in-the-eye Start button to Modern UI?

I'm gonna speculate that it is because M$ has an effective monopoly on business desktop operating systems and the Office suite, and so can push users around. They have serious competition on the gaming front and have to be much more responsive to their customers.

But hey, I could be wrong....
