I agree with most of the points made in this article. It seems to me knowing how to use social media -- and incorporating it into your job function -- will be simply a given, like knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, and other programs has been for some time now.

I suspect a lot of what are now social media specialist positions will morph into data science-related positions, as companies (esp in areas such as insurance and banking) will be looking to leverage what they are learning about customers via social interactions in effective & legal ways for product development, underwriting, fraud prevention, etc.
