I don't think a smartwatch will be enough for Microsoft to gain traction within the mobile market and beyond. Apple and Samsung already have established reputations in the market, which allowed them to build gateways to other products. As a consumer, I would view a smartwatch is more of an accessory to other devices I would already own, whether Apple, Samsung, or another.
