I agree with you on all points. I understand the pressure to compete with Samsung, but I think both Samsung and Apple would be headed in the wrong direction if they made tablets bigger than they already are.

The larger iPhone certainly makes sense given the response from consumers to larger-screened Android devices. For the reasons stated in the article, the iPad wouldn't seem to make as much sense. Perhaps the most viable use case for a larger iPad would be if it was part of a "transformer" type of option for a MacBook, where the device is really a MacBook, but with a removal screen that then doubles as an iPad when needed.
