The consumer expectation is carrying over into the workplace (BYOD, etc.). "Social" is the preference for everything nowadays, and employees are pushing for that trend in the workplace. It would bode well for companies to follow suit.

I do agree with you with all these tips, it's important to find ways that are not related to SEO to bring traffic to your blog to make sure that if you site git hit by Google with any update that you still have another way. Commenting on relative posts on high traffic blogs are great way but you need to make sure that you present a comment that actually add to the post and the discussion and not an ordinary thank you post.
