Just today, I heard the head of Washington DC's Metro (subway) system make a recorded public announcement to passengers waiting for trains to be smart about using their smartphones, on the platform, the escalator, and the trains, knowing that thieves are looking to snatch what amounts to easy pickings. The costs are larger than the public would suspect.
