I agree! When the company name changed, and I updated my profile to reflect the new name, the same thing happened. Connections were congratulating me, and I had to explain that it was not a new job.

"Opt out of notifications when joining groups" -- yes yes yes! My inbox gets clogged with so many updates that usually aren't useful for me. Will be helpful to turn those off.

Wish I'd known about the mute option for profile updates the last time I made a minor edit to my job title, which resulted in weeks of embarrassing "congrats on your new job" postings
