re: Basho Embraces OpenStack With Riak Cloud Storage
Riak is an under appreciated system, compared to the better known Cassandra and MongoDB. It's OpenStack compatibility may change that.

re: Basho Embraces OpenStack With Riak Cloud Storage
"Cassandra has a reputation for being challenging at high scale, but with Riak you can add nodes and servers to a cluster and everything is automatically balanced within minutes," he said." This isn't correct. Cassandra (version 1.2 and above) contains virtual nodes that keep a cluster automatically balanced when new nodes are added. Moreover, creating new clusters, adding/removing nodes, and more can all be done visually through OpsCenter, which is free.

re: Basho Embraces OpenStack With Riak Cloud Storage
One possible drawback with Riak as a database is the lack of something akin to Cassandra Query Language (CQL), the SQL like language for analytics. Basho counters that it supports distributed MapReduce processing, secondary indexes and full-text search, all of which "make it easy" for programmers and developers to get data out of Riak, according to Basho CMO Bobby Patrick.
Any impartial Riak users (or Cassandra and Riak users) have a take on the ease of getting at data or the comparison with Cassandra?
