re: Apple iPhone 5S: Golden Opportunity
So the word now is that gold-colored iPhones are targeted specifically at China, where this sort of thing is evidently huge. I had no idea. I was skeptical at first, but Americans (me included, no doubt) buy things for even sillier reasons. If it helps, it would be a big deal for Apple.

Offering a gold-colored iPhone is the equivalent of offering an amp that goes to 11.

Just go to the hardware store. A can of quality spray paint in just about any color is $3-$5. Get some masking tape also. You can change the color every month. But then again I see many of these devices stuck in an expensive user case for protection--so color would not really matter.

re: Apple iPhone 5S: Golden Opportunity
Pretty much. Of all the iPhone 5S rumors I've heard, this one does the least to persuade me to upgrade. I guess it doesn't hurt Apple to offer a new color. Even if only a minority of people care, sales will more than compensate for whatever additional expenses were incurred for the gold casing. I'll be disappointed if they don't have more up their sleeves in September.

My thoughts exactly. Get a case in any color or pattern you like. Change it every year just to be special. The phone will work the same regardless of color! This should only be important if you are 13 yrs old or less! If you are that bored with an iPhone 5, get a Windows 8 phone and get more done faster.

re: Apple iPhone 5S: Golden Opportunity
A former colleague recently asked a good question on this topic. When you can get a case in any color or material you want, inexpensively, why are phone colors even relevant anymore? I have a lime green case. I don't need a lime green iPhone. (I know, the gold case will look pretty in marketing materials.)
