re: Pivotal CEO Maritz Teases 'Linux For The Cloud'
I don't think Pivotal can or should build a cloud operating system, but I have no privileged information on what they're actually up to. I think they see the opportunity in helping build the next generation of cloud application and guiding that process, when possible back to VMware and EMC. The pieces of the puzzle held in their hands fits that pattern -- quick big data analysis for any scalable application, other features. That would be extremely useful.

re: Pivotal CEO Maritz Teases 'Linux For The Cloud'
The money line here is "Amazon Web Services already has five times the market share of its 14 largest competitors combined." Wow, is that a reality check. Software incumbents should be as afraid of Amazon as are retail incumbents like Best Buy and Barnes & Noble. That hurts!

"...it's just as likely to be a reference to the work already being accomplished at Open Stack, of which VMware is a member." This does fit with the rest of what Maritz said. Thoughts, cloud community?
