SoftLayer's infrastructure supports a lot of commercial hosting providers as well as direct customers. The dedicated server model is still very necessary and viable in numerous businesses, and SoftLayer's been doing a great job of supplying it

IBM will excel at building private clouds in the enterprise. It's consulting services are skilled at producing what a company wants and it understands enterprise needs. For enterprises with mainframes, who could be better? But of course providing cloud services and providing cloud consulting services are two different things..

FYI, IBM is expected to announce on Sept 12 that a new IDC MarketScape puts IBM out in front of a variety of cloud professional services: and that IBM Business partner Racemi is announcing migrations from competitive platforms to IBM Softlayer free of charge, according to IBM sources.

SoftLayer was formed by 12 members that LEFT the planet, to create something bigger and better in 2005. In 2010 GI Partners bought 65% of SoftLayer, and The Planet merged with SoftLayer"

And another thing: "We compete with Amazon, David to Goliath," says Duke Skarda, SoftLayer CTO. He says 2013 revenues "will be over $400 million."

How important is it to cloud users that they have instant access to both public Internet communications and private networkis? SoftLayer's cloud servers have it. Who needs it?
