re: Can BlackBerry Be Saved By Fairfax Buy?
I don't see how this helps Blackberry at all. It's not going to help product development, developers aren't building apps for the Blackberry app store (so users don't want to buy the handheld), and the financials are all out of whack. Perhaps Fairfax has some master plan (likely break up Blackberry and sell the parts), but I don't see how it will equal their investment.

I don't think they have enough parts to recover $4.7B. Is the hardware mfg as cost effective as Asia mfg? Is Blackberry Enterprise and Blackberry Messenger really worth anything significant as software products/companies? Besides patents, what else do they own?
But I agree with you that is probably what they are thinking, nothing else makes sense.

I agree, that seems like the most reasonable outcome here. Oh how the mighty have fallen. RIP Blackberry.

RIP BlackBerry. They will no longer exist when all is said and done. If Apple is not careful, they too will go the way of the Dodo, BlackBerry, and Oldsmobile.

YES they can. The technologies are out there. Even Apple copied Samsung. So, yes specially when you are starting from scratch. Have two models - one the old key board and the other new for new people and do some serious work adding everything Samsung and Apple has plus a few new items...for people who use them....

No. I suspect that Fairfax Holdings, which is a financial company with no background in technology, will break up company and sell off the parts at a small profit.

It sure doesn't seem to make any sense. Either they are world's dumbest bankers, the CEO's cousins looking to make him rich on his way out, or have some master plan the rest of us sure can't see. Patent troll sounds like most likely scenario over long haul.
