How does Microsoft's Azure channel story compare with VMware with its hybrid service? Seems there was a lot of potential for channel conflict with VMware's service.

re: Microsoft's Azure Cloud Move: What It Means
Microsoft has been struggling to get its cloud parts together, within its customers accustomed framework. Meanwhile, Amazon and others have pioneered the market. Now, however, Microsoft has got its pieces in place and will continue to build in synefgies between its on-premises software and the Azure cloud. For those who think that sounds so Windows 95, they should check out the Azure software. Microsoft has learned its cloud lessons well. It no doubt has some kludgy aspects related to the need to operate on Windows Server and System Center, but that gives a big customer base an avenue to hybrid cloud.

And don't forget that Hyper-V is free with Win Server. It's a compelling argument, and this extreme simplification is a smart move. I just talked with Pertino, which is hiding SDN in the cloud powered by IPv6 under a UI so simple a five-year-old could use it. This is how you get the midsize company with a small IT staff that doesn't have time to hold users' hands or learn complex management systems.
