I agree. Good bill. For the government to get into setting standards would be unacceptable micro-management. For the gov't to mandate that carriers agree on definitions and inform users how well they are meeting them is nothing but reasonable. Too bad it's needed. Carriers should get the need for this themselves.

In my opinion to get the next "G" a technology should have a significant increase in speed. As most 3G networks now run download speeds at approx. 1.5 MB, to have a 4G stamp it should be required to be 5MB/s or greater average download speed. That is about a 3x greater speed and would be significant. Also, upload speeds should be no less than 20% of the upload and as a result, should be 1 MB or greater.

Anything above these values is fine, anything less and it should have to still be called 3.5G
