re: BlackBerry Raises $1 Billion, Ousts Heins
One aspect worth noting about the choice of John Chen, former CEO of Sybase, as chairman and interim CEO of BlackBerry: His background in enterprise software suggests that Fairfax is betting on BlackBerry's future, such as it is, as primarily an enterprise software company rather than as a mobile device maker.

re: BlackBerry Raises $1 Billion, Ousts Heins
Nice to see the return of John Chen, formerly CEO of Sybase, to the mobile computing limelight. I got the feeling Chen didn't fit with the club at SAP, even though they said nice things about how crucial his leadership was to the growth of Sybase into a mobile and data-management force with strong ties into the growing market it China.

Building up Sybase was a long-term play. It will be interesting to see if Chen stays in this role long term and whether he can do anything with a distressed and pressured asset like Blackberry. Sybase was able to fly under the radar, but Blackberry is under a microscope.
