NEW TECHNOLOGY TO AVOIS READMISSIONS
http://www.speechmed.com/

SpeechMED creates spoken patient instructions for a variety of applications, data is composed locally and online using prepared forms, imported hospital or physician data, or directly from a microphone. There is no limit on the number of languages or the extent of content which can be incorporated into the system. SpeechMED flexibility allows any information to be uploaded in the system

Avoid ordering unnecessary testing because patient health care records are immediately accessible.

Enables quicker and more accurate decision making because of the availability of comprehensive records.

Increased likelihood of compliance because patients and their caregivers received instructions in their native language as well as from the physician.

Reduces likelihood of medical mishaps because physician/patient relationship does not stop at the office door.

SpeechMed acts as a memory device for both the patient and caregivers, with prompts and reminders for medicine, appointments and other related instructions.

Smart phone apps to guard against readmissions
The advent of the smart phone as a personal computing device, capable of hosting patient-selected applications, is going to change all this. It provides a direct link that was missing before. The patient is also used to manipulating it for information needed on a timely basis. But it will still take some education, while in the hospital. The medical profession has concentrated on delivering appropriate care, appropriate in the eyes of professional peers, not on actually reaching the patient in whatever emotional state he or she may be in.
