Can we say that the Dell Venue 8 Pro@ 99 bucks was a success?
Any customers complaining already? Are they happy with the purchase?

I was wondering how much money Dell and Microsoft lost with this deal.

Unforunately, it's a standard tactic from computer and electronics makers these days: keep the supply very tight to create a "gotta get it now" dynamic. Apple, Sony, Samsung, Google...they all do it with their hot new devices.

Market share will grow only when devices are priced right
This shows that a lot of devices can be moved if the price is right. If Microsoft wants more mobile market share then make the 99$ deal permanent. I'd buy one at that price, even with Win8 on it, but not for 199 or even 299....unless there is an easy way to ditch the craptastic OS and install something decent, but then the hardware must be worth it. I don't think that is the case with the Dell tablet.

Microsoft clearly enraged more potential customers than they made happy. Do they really want to flick off that many people in the busiest shopping season of the year?

Because of this madness, I will stay away from Microsoft / Dell and look at suppliers that offer everyone a "fair" deal.

People were mad after camping out and waiting in lines for the tightly-controlled gold Apple iPhones, too. "Limited supply" deals do 2 things: get people physically in a store, and create buzz. Shopper, beware.

You may think you look like Apple....
Lines at stores, demand exceeding supply... this is staging appearances to look like Apple, when you actually have a very different product, buyer and overall constituency than Apple. It's not a long term business strategy.

This is bonafide proof that Windows 8 tablets will fly off the shelves for $99.00.  That's about all.

When you run an MSDOS buggy Windoze server it crashes. If it were a Linux Apache server then everyone could have bought a virus trap MS Shablet. 99.9% of the public buy Linux Androids and Free BSD Unix devices so this is a big propaganda yawn.

This is not possible.
This can't be possible. I was told that only Government sites crashed or slowed due to performance problems.

All the "serious" people told me that commercial companies made websites that scaled to handle any amount of traffic with no effort whatsoever. This reporting must be faulty.
