How smart will Cortana be?
The addition of a notification center and virtual assistant will merely give Windows Phone features that its (more lucrative) competitors already have. Ballmer has talked up Microsoft's machine learning technology, including allusions to projects that probably include Cortana. Neither Siri nor Google Now is an indispensible assistant. In different ways, both are useful and limited. I think if Microsoft is going to make a legitimate move, they'll need to present a legitimately disruptive and compelling product at some point. Perhaps Cortana is it?

will 8.1 save windows phones?
I think MS missed the boat on the mobile device market. I'm not sure if windows 8.1 will boost sales much. They are copying the notification center from Droid and iOS and seri as well. Are they just finding out these are must have features? MS continues to run behind the leaders in the mobil device market.
