Good point Laurianne, but the reality is most organizations are stuck.  In fact, InformationWeek we did a similar survey in 2010 that asked the same question.  Back then, only 13% rated themselves as great.  Too many organizations are simply stuck (or overwhelmed)

'Only 13% rate their customer-facing digital presence as top notch." That seems surprising in 2013. Is it that we are all comparing ourselves to Amazon? I wonder if the marketing folk would be so self-critical.

No question there will be some culture shock. I think Ford was smart enough to see this and left the group as a separate team (versus integrating them)  I believe Staples and Wal-mart are going to roll their aquisitions into their technology groups.  Definitely some potential for turmoil.

How do tech startups adjust when acquired by larger multinationals? I assume there will be some meaningful cultural differences.
