Great point Laurianne. As soon as a buzzword like Big Data hits a certain saturation it'll appear absolutely everywhere, on any product that remotely features data analysis.

In my opinion there is a high demand for people who has the knowledge on big data since it is limited to find people to fulfill the vacancies.

We will likely see more "big data washing" too, as we did with "cloud washing" where vendors stuck the word cloud on any product or service possible, to make the offering seem more modern.

Platforms/breadth will matter more in 2014
The tech trend I'm seeing for 2014 is brand extension. It's not enough to be a one trick pony, so Hadoop distributors and NoSQL databases will be adding to their bag of tricks, emphasizing that there's much more to what they offer than Hadoop clusters or a high-scale DBMS. The next step after that will be consolidation as we get into the big data "trough of disillusionment."

We're seeing new titles in this digital revolution, new responsibilities, new business models, and major shifts in technology spending.
