This isn't what Larry and Marc Were talking about
You might think that this announcement stemmed from the détente between Oracle and Salesforce.com announced last June. At that time, in a joint call with Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison noted that customers "expect application integrations to work right out of the box. That's why Marc and I believe it's important that our two companies work together."

But according to L'Her, the new Oracle Cloud Adapter for Salesforce.com is not directly related to that announcement. "I didn't get a phone call from Larry to do this," L'Her said. "We're in the integration business and we have to support all vendors. What they were announcing is that we're going to be working together, but I don't know if this what Larry and Marc had in mind."

Re: This isn't what Larry and Marc Were talking about
Our 2013 State of Enterprise Apps research is clear on this: SaaS vendors aren't doing enough on integration. We asked about satisfaction with 9 factors of cloud-based software, and integration came dead last. Let's hope "adapter" works as easily as it's meant to sound.

Here's a link to that research (which Doug Henschen wrote):

When it comes to managing data, donít look at backup and archiving systems as burdens and cost centers. A well-designed archive can enhance data protection and restores, ease search and e-discovery efforts, and save money by intelligently moving data from expensive primary storage systems.
