An Amazon Achilles heel?
Is performance the Achilles heels of Amazon Web Services? Google and Microsoft seem to think so. Maybe I should say, hope so.

Re: An Amazon Achilles heel?
Things like big-data analysis might fall cheaper if a pricing model based on performance was used, but I wonder if the saving (either in money terms or in jobs completed terms) would be huge.

Hmmm, a lot of variables to consider.
I'm still a little skeptical, much like the noisy-neighbour point, how could a company really control the performance given the wide variety of variables that would affect how resource performance would be measured.  Throw in security layers (SSL VPN), geographic factors, it's a very bold concept to pay based on performance and if indeed it can be done, then it might get the bigger guys to start getting their own services up to snuff in comparison.  Perhaps it would require a ping trace in order to get a baseline for performance for each customer.
