iOS
Apple CEO Tim Cook said during the company's earnings call today that Apple is focused on quality rather than quantity. Whether that will serve the company in the long run remains to be seen. But for now, iOS is still a compelling platform for developers.

Re: iOS
I think one reason Android is over Apple is the openness of it's OS. Apple has things so tightly wrapped. I tried to get a picture album off my iPhone and it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to do it. The camera roll is accessible through windows when you connect the iPhone to a usb but no other albums are. Why?

It has come to me as a surprise that Windows based smart phones have captured double digit market share in European market. This is significant if we compare it with the share of Apple iOS. That's not too far behind. Windows based smart phones are yet to set a firm foot in most of the markets across the world, but we may have a surprise as Microsoft is all set to take over Nokia.

Another surprise toward the end of the article which is probably the bigger one about toppling of Samsung in Chinese market by a local vendor named Xiaomi. It takes something to overtake the world's largest smart phone manufacturer in just three years. It would be interesting if someone with first-hand experience of any of Xiaomi's phones could share his/her experience?
