APIs and mobile integration
Every app requires scores of backend data - data that needs to be gleaned from multiple sources. APIs enable this data exchange. But when a mobile app needs data exchange with multiple data sources, API management becomes the next issue and API platform management tools come into picture. Read my detailed view here:

One rich source of APIs and freely-available data that's gaining recognition in the public sector for commercial use can be found at, the US government's portal for open government data.

Re: What about API granularity?
Hi Doug,

Thanks for your comment.
Salesforce identified the importance of having adaptable services that can be used for different output use. Usablenet has already experienced the lack of flexibility in many back end APIs, and as a result we have added a technology layer inside our platform that allows for the modeling of services. This allows Usablenet to provide clients with re-modeled web services for different use cases, based off back end APIs. This, along with creating web services and APIs dynamically off web sites and web applications, creates an environment that support agility within the client's team.

Hope this helps answer your question. Happy to continue the dialogue further.

What about API granularity? said its first efforts to deliver better mobile functionality were hampered by course APIs. The said they had to create "10 times more APIs" with finer granularity to deliver its Saleforce1 platform. Are enterprises facing this same problem. Do they need to get finer grained and break out many more APIs to support mobile, social, and data-analysis demands?

The Business of Going Digital
Digital business isn't about changing code; it's about changing what legacy sales, distribution, customer service, and product groups do in the new digital age. It's about bringing big data analytics, mobile, social, marketing automation, cloud computing, and the app economy together to launch new products and services. We're seeing new titles in this digital revolution, new responsibilities, new business models, and major shifts in technology spending.
