Hello!

I too got as far as screen sixteen without any problems. Screen sixteen seems to be hung up. It has been 2 hours already. Is this normal?.....I truly would appreciatte any coments.

recovery disc using the fix R stage from within reinstall windows stage
read the entire 5 page report on this  and I followed all of it .. I was having a problem with "NTLDR missing"   .. and needed to boot from the recovery disc and install these  two files for 'ntldr missing' to be fixed .. I went into the  'fix R'  stage from 'install XP windows' page  .. and strange as it seems it just grabbed the files from the disc and 15 seconds later rebooted into the windows logo .....

all worked fine ..

Re: Upgrading from Windows XP
If using a different XP install disc, do you enter the original key, or the key from the new disc?

Non-destructive rebuild....
Like several others, I too do not get the 'R' option when selecting the existing installation. Why is this?

Upgrading from Windows XP
I am trying to install Windows 7 on an older Dell XPS 400 that came with Windows XP installed. Unfortunately when I cleaned up the computer I erased and lost the pre-installed XP. The XP came pre-installed and I do not have a diskette to reinstall it. The reason I need to do this is because my Windows 7 program looks for it in order ti install over it. Can anyone think of a way to (a) get a copy of XP on diskette or (b) to get around this problem another way. Thanks for any help.

re: Langa Letter: XP's No-Reformat, Nondestructive Total-Rebuild Option
I've used this procedure more than once since I read this article. It worked perfectly each time and instantly refreshed and speeded up my old XP system. I printed it out and have it on a shelf in my computer desk for easy access when needed. All it takes is the ability to follow very easily understood instructions. Probably the most useful thing I've ever read, ;)

Thanks, Fred!
