RoboSimian is being designed and built by NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab. Inspired by simians, this robot will complete difficult tasks under supervised tele-operation. JPL is using design methods, system elements and software algorithms already in use in other JPL robots. RoboSimian's design allows its four general-purpose limbs and hands to hold passively stable positions; create multipoint connections to ladders, railings, stairs and other supports; and brace itself when it carries out forceful manipulations.
