The lighter a tablet is, the more likely you'll bring it along as you go about your daily activities. Unfortunately for Amazon, Google's Nexus 7 is the bantamweight champ, weighing just 12 ounces (0.75 pounds)--that's about 2.5 ounces less than the Kindle Fire. The next-gen Fire is rumored to be slimmer and lighter than its predecessor though, so the Nexus 7's weight advantage may not last long.
