8 iPhone 5 Rumors: Best And Worst

Computing devices with fingerprint scanners aren't new. IBM introduced a laptop with an integrated fingerprint reader way back in 2004. And the Motorola Atrix 4G smartphone had one in 2011. Well, the iPhone 5S is expected to integrate a fingerprint sensor with the home button, but why? Users aren't exactly clamoring for the feature, which could be used in lieu of a passcode to unlock the phone, access digital wallet capabilities (for online shopping, for example), or perform other tasks that only Apple knows about for now. Fingerprint scanning is an intriguing idea, but will it be faster and easier than passwords for the average iPhone user?

Why would Apple, the company that had a weird non-standard connector on all of its phones up until last year and then chose a different non-standard connector to replace it, care which wireless charging technology becomes the industry standard.

Agreed. Apple tends to declare a standard and hope its choice becomes so rather than waiting until there's industry consensus.

re: 8 iPhone 5 Rumors: Best And Worst
A former colleague of mine recently raised the point on Twitter that the rumor buzz about phone colors seems silly in this day and age when almost every iphone user can get a case in any color of the rainbow, personalized with pictures even.
