Here Is A Look At How Connected We Are To Our Phones

BYTE checked out the different ways our phones are keeping us connected at the CTIA conference in New Orleans.

At the CTIA conference in New Orleans, it felt like the phone was the center of the universe. The phone has become much more than something you call your mom on, it is becoming a critical part of our identity, source of entertainment, and a fashion statement.

Mobile phones are changing the way we drive -- by keeping us entertained, helping us not get lost, and even helping us drive safer.

The phone can also be used for health reasons. A major Japanese mobile phone operator has a phone that can measure how much you've been drinking and check your body mass index. Just breathe into it and wait for the results.

Phones will also help you buy things on-the-go. Using MasterCard's PayPass Wallet, I bought a drink by holding a smartphone to the reader. The touch screen let me select a drink and voila! there was my Diet Coke.

With mobile phones becoming such a part of our every day life, it's important to keep the little computers protected. With this rugged OtterBox, you can protect your phone in case you drop it. Look at what happens when I dropped this iPhone. It survived! Ok, I was scared to drop the iPad too — but it looked like it landed all in one piece.

Finally, I found this Appfinity AppBlaster toy gun, where you can shoot aliens and augment your reality. The aliens kept attacking! Hmm, I really gotta work on my shooting skills.
