The iPad's smooth aluminum exterior and glossy glass face are certainly dressed to impress. But the iPad may be too slippery for its own good, particularly for clumsy users. Google and its manufacturing partner Asus came up with a clever solution for the Nexus 7: a textured back panel that's very easy to grip. Of course, Apple's metal-and-glass fetish makes it unlikely that it would slap a plastic back on the iPad Mini. But something a bit more ergonomic than smooth metal would be a welcome change, particularly for a device that's reportedly petite enough to hold comfortably with one hand.
