"The potentail for artiifical intelligence and contextual features is huge."

After seeing that IBM is offering a Watson in the cloud service I have to agree.  I think we'll start seeing more AI coming to the smart phone arena, maybe not as Watson implementations but as other cloud services with similar capabilities.

Design innovation stifled by Apple?
Look at all the new designs. After Apple argued in court for hours about their curved corners, all the manufacturers have moved away from it and they are now much more square. What a shame too. Just as we moved from boxy to sleek, curved cars, the phone industry was moving that way. Now they are all too scared and have reverted to 2000-era boxiness. Am I the only one seeing this, or the only one mentioning it?

Shame on you Apple. Leading innovation by stifling it is the very thing you accused Microsoft of for years.

Re: Innovation
An other area of innovation is bringing the cloud right onto the phone.   See a tutorial I will be posting on how ot have a cloud on a USB stick in the next few days to http://www.petitecloud.org for an idea of where this can lead (one area being looked at [not for smart phones but no reason not to run their also] is give quizes/exams {in class or take home} with such clouds [either way they are tamper proof])

Innovation
I think that there is room for a lot of innovation in smartphones. The potentail for artiifical intelligence and contextual features is huge.

Low energy Bluetooth and NFC can bring more functionality to phones as a smart business card or wallet. And curved or flexible phones are an exciting new development I think will prove popular in the marketplace over the next few years.
