HTC One Smartphones Debut At MWC 2012HTC One series of Android 4.0 smartphones includes high-end camera components and sound from Beats Audio. Check out our video coverage, from Mobile World Congress 2012.
The HTC One X is the company's new flagship Android smartphone. The large 4.7 inch Super LCD 2 screen shows off 1280 by 720 pixel full HD resolution. The phone runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and boasts HTC's new Sense 4 user interface. All of this technology needs some serious power behind it, and this phone has it with a quad-core Tegra 3 processor plus an additional core for low-power tasks. "Life often moves faster than the camera can keep up," said HTC CEO Peter Chou. With a camera startup time of 0.7 seconds and an autofocus time of 0.2 seconds, that shouldn't be a problem. The 8-megapixel camera is powered by ImageSense, a combination of lens, sensor, software, user interface, and custom silicon. Image Sense also powers features like burst mode, which allows you to press and hold the shutter for continuous shooting.
Shooting photos at night or under low light conditions with a smartphone can be challenging. HTC has addressed that issue with the One X by giving the camera has a larger pixel depth to capture more light and reduce blur. The f/2.0 lens can capture 44% more light than the typical f/2.4 lens you would find on comparable high-end smartphones, the company says. HDR capability is also included to help with low or bad lighting scenarios.
Photos are no fun if you can't share them. HTC Sense 4 integrates Dropbox and gives customers a free 25 GB of premium Dropbox storage for two years. That's room for over 10,000 high quality photos. The phone can automatically upload photos to Dropbox, and can also easily email links to the photos to share with others. Dropbox is used throughout the phone UI to make sharing and storing documents and other files easier.
For audiophiles, HTC's Authentic Sound uses Beats Audio and has integrated it throughout the phone. Even apps like Pandora can take advantage of the enhanced sound quality. Additionally, Beats headphones users can select from a variety of audio profiles and allow the phone to optimize the output.
The HTC One line includes two additional phones, the One S and the One V. Both have the same look and feel of the One X with slightly lower specifications. The One S has a 4.3 inch display and the One V has a 3.7 inch display.
The HTC One phones are expected to be available in early April 2012.
