NBC Universal has launched a new technology growth center to develop products for new platforms and prevent piracy.

NBC announced plans for a Technology Growth Center this week. The division will look for new opportunities in digital media, like the interactive applications the company featured on digital satellite and cable during the 2006 Olympic Games.

"Today, consumers want to enjoy media any time and anywhere. The TGC will help fulfill this demand by providing the necessary technology to foster a greater variety of distribution methods," John Eck, president and CIO of Media Works, the company's technology and operations division, said through a prepared statement.

TCG will develop technology for broadband, iTV, mobile and wireless, DVRs, gaming and more. It is also working on DVD point-of-sale activation, forensic watermarking, peer based distribution technologies, download-to-own technology, DRM standards and automatic closed captioning. The division has already prepared television content for distribution through iTunes.
